When we talk about putting the work in
We demystify magic
De-taboo the word effort
Relinquish the power mistake and mediocre play
In the trap door of the brain that’s lined
With cinnamon sugar and your favourite re-runs
And amongst all of the options available to you
You choose to be here
Putting that work in
Posting prior to perfection
Posting before the night says the day is done
And it’s 12:01
And you’ve missed the deadline
The self-imposed structure you make
To house this thing called craft
Which you’d rather call play
(I guess you could)
‘Cause you’re both the teacher dishing out the discipline
And the student scratching prose into the desk instead of listening.
